Does an Ethernet Coupler Slow down my Internet Speed?
I need to connect something to my router and it’s about 20 feet away… I have a bunch of short ethernet cords that are about 3-4 feet each so I was thinking about ordering a few ethernet couplers:

And connect all the ethernet cords together with these but I was wondering if this would slow down my connection? Would it be slower to have 5 cords connected together with couplers than to just have one 25-foot ethernet cord? Or would it be just as fast?
I can buy a pack of 5 ethernet couplers for $0.99 (includes shipping) on ebay or I can buy a 25-foot ethernet cord for $8. I would rather buy the cheaper couplers if it will be just as fast.
You will probably see some network performance degradation with those couplers (especially if you do end up trying to use more than one), but chances are you won’t really notice the difference. If you all you’ll be doing is accessing the internet with that device, then your internet connection will almost certainly be slower than the connection to the router and you won’t notice if that’s a bit slower than it should be. On the other hand, if you’re trying to transfer large files or stream high definition video across that cable from another device on your network, then you might notice the slowdown. The other issue with using those couplers is that if you do have problems with the connection, tracking down which coupler or which cable is causing the problem could be very difficult. I would recommend just spending the extra $7 for a cable that’s long enough–in the long run, it’ll probably save you a lot of frustration.
