Cable TV: How Difficult For Us To Repair Coaxial Cable?
If your coax cable was damaged, there are some steps you can take to repair the damaged cable TV rather then changing the whole line. This will save you time and money, because a repair is less expensive then a new coax line. After the line is repaired there should be no difference noticed in signal strength for the TV. If you do notice a signal-strength loss and have followed all the proper steps for repair, then you will need to change the line because the line is damaged beyond repair. Cut the damaged area of the wire out if the coaxial cable has been cut into. You will need some slack wire to pull. Twist the new ends onto each wire end that you just cut back. Strip back 1/2 of the outer black insulation leaving the silver braided wire to fold over as you twist on the end. Strip 1/2 of the inner insulation to expose the copper wire in the middle. Turn the ends clockwise to screw them on.
Slide the tool off the cable, removing with it a clean cut of the outer portion of the cable. Cut away the exposed aluminum braiding surrounding the insulation. What will be left above the cut portion of the cable is copper filament surrounded by a white, PVC insulation. Close the RG-6 labeled groove of the crimping tool an inch down the cable. Twist the stripping tool back and forth a few times to make a complete cut around the outer portion of the cable.
Cut between the insulation down to about 1/3 of an inch with the section of the stripping tool labeled “inner.” Twist the stripper around the section to make a clean cut, and then remove the cut portion. Strip off a half inch of the exterior tubing around the cable with a coaxial stripper. The inner tubing and copper wire should now be exposed. Don’t discard your old cable television because of a cut or tear in the line. Loss of conductivity or interference can occur even on a partially cut line.
Hold the replacement coax connector in one hand with the two attached tabs facing up. Hold the needle-nosed pliers in the other hand. Snip off the two tabs with the needle-nosed pliers. File the snipped ends smooth with the file. Blow off the replacement coax connector with compressed air. Crimp the copper wire to the nub with the jaws of the needle-nosed pliers. Apply a drop of solder to the nub to secure it to the copper wire. Let the solder cool for two minutes. Place the back cover back onto the TV. Reattach the screws, stand the TV back up and re-attach everything. This is how difficult for us to repair damaged coaxial cables for good.
