Is installing alarms more complicated than CCTV?

I’m a professional CCTV installer and salesman. I have been installation and configuring CCTV for about 4 years now and I pretty much mastered it completely. recently, a good client of mine asked me regarding alarm, which i never did, but i wish i could help. my concern is if, at mt level of expertise, will it be doable for me to install alarms as well, or should i pass the job forward? regarding to equipment, i can always ask my vendors and they can help. but i want to know if it a completely different job from CCTV.

Here goes.

You already know how to run, hide, and connect various systems. Knowing what/which main control board to use is a real trick. Additionally, knowing which sensors (magnetic and vibration(glass break)) for windows and doors (and their settings) is a real issue. Which door and window sensors do you interconnect? Do you use a dead man Magnetic lock and on which doors when an alarm is tripped, and which ones? Do you know where to set motion sensors, and calibrate them? Know where to locate and install remote panels. Setting pass codes is not difficult. Hard wiring the system I am sure you can do. Battery, and remote alarm, backup is something you need to be aware of in case someone tries to disable the system.

There’s more, but here’s the basic tap out (completion) list for installing one.

1. Install main control board. This board handles all the signals from the cameras, lights and sensors that make up your home security alarm system and may send signals to a security company. So, the control board needs power and a telephone or cable hookup.

2. Place door sensors on all entry doors. Make sure that the magnetic switches or other sensors cleanly separate when the door is opened. Run the signal cable back to the main control board.

3. Install window sensors so that an alarm will be triggered when a window is opened. As with door sensors you need to be sure that the sensor trips when the window is opened. Run the signal cable back to the main control board.

4. Position glass break alarms so that the security provided by the window sensors is complemented by theses secondary alarms. Run the signal cable back to the main control board.

5. Install a remote control panel beside the main entry door. The remote control panel allows you to arm and disarm the security alarm system when you enter or leave your home. Run signal cable to the main control board.

6. Test or calibrate the remote control panel, door and window sensors and the glass break alarms with the main control board. Set pass-codes that you will use to arm or disarm the system.

All of these things I am sure you can eventually learn and do yourself. If you can read and follow instructions, setting and calibrating most of the system gets very easy over a short period of time. As you already know, nothing beats experience.
