how do i find out the lens configuration for my cam?
I have a little pinhole cam and when i took the lenses out to be cleaned they all came out at once and went all over the place so i couldnt note what order they came out in
does anybody know a way of finding out (without guessing) what order they came out in? maybe by looking at the focus of each one or something?
I guess I don’t understand the question. Pinhole cameras don’t have lenses. The pinhole *is* the lens! That’s… that’s the entire point… I-
Anyway, if the lenses don’t have markings, and if you don’t have any reference material (owner’s manual?) for identifying them, you can identify a singlet lens by measuring its diameter and focal length. The diameter measurement is pretty straightforward. That is, you get a ruler and measure the distance from one side of the lens to the other, then write down what it is.
Focal length is a little harder, but more fun. Remember starting pieces of paper on fire with a magnifying glass? The focal length is the distance between the magnifying glass (lens) and the piece of paper. This is easy to do on a sunny day. At night, you can hold the lens against a wall in a room with an overhead light on, and adjust its distance until an image of the light bulb comes into focus against the wall. It’ll be upside down, but that’s okay. Again, the distance between the lens and the image of the light bulb is the focal length.
You can divide the focal length by the diameter to get the lens’s speed, otherwise known as its maximum f/stop. If it’s 25mm across, and the light bulb comes into focus 60mm from the lens, then it’s a 60mm f/2.4 lens (since 60 / 25 = 2.4). Hope this helps.
