Mega High
Can anyone recommend a good camera must be nice looking, have a high mega pixel and be digital and under £250.
Must be Compact! Its for a trip so can’t lug a huge one about.
£250 gives you a humongous choice…….. but not the Fuji Finepix S9500 / S9600 the first answerer suggested, as that costs £254 on Amazon + is practically an SLR camera in all but name (and just as big).
At the lower end of the price scale, and not too bad looking is the Fuji Finepix A700 which gives you 7.3megapixels & 3x Optical Zoom… and is basically an evolution of the Fuji Finepix A345 I use.

Leaving plenty of change for a bigger memorycard + a couple of sets of High capacity rechargable batteries.
There’s supposed to be A820 (8-megapixel) + A900 (9-megapixel) versions of this camera due out around May / June.
Further up the price scale is the Fuji Finepix F20

Though when it comes to compactness, they don’t come much slimmer than CASIO’s “Exilim” range, like this Casio Exilim EX-Z1000 which is a 10-megapixel camera, and is at the upper end of your price limit + uses proprietary batteries (not AA’s that can be obtained anywhere if your high capacity rechargeable AA’s run out): http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/ex-z1000.html
