can you use a 20+4 power pin in a motherboard that needs a 24 pin connector?
Or does it need o be 24 pin? I need a 350W PSU that is modular, can be used in a 24 pin motherboard and is preferably namebrand without hitting too far over $100 or so.

Yes, that’s what the 4-pin additional connector is for… but $100 for a 350W power supply is insane- they only cost half that much! By the way, you’re unlikely to find anything modular at such low wattage.
