SATA Power Connector Problem?
I ran into an odd thing yesterday when I was dusting out my system. After closing the hood and hooking up all the peripherals, I got a boot device error. The problem was that one of the SATA power connectors was disconnected. I reseated the connectors on both drives and they both feel a bit loose–much less insertion (or extraction!) force than I remember when building the system a little over a year ago. It seems like a mild problem to me and I wonder if it’s a known problem with certain connectors, a thermal problem in the case, or what?
It’s a CoolerMaster PS, around 500W, and WD Caviar 250G SATA drives.
na its no big deal so long as it still ran as well as before. All it is is expansion. It was newer and less used when you first did it a year ago and now that it has more “experiance” it has just expanded over time. I’d just try to keep the pc in a cooler place. If you dont already have it (or one) set up the rear chasis fan as an exhaust and set up another air enterance fan. If it is not a tower case then really I would build a fan in the hood somewhere away from the cpu. And if there is an existing exhaust in said desktop case I would change it’s air flow to enter and let my new exhaust clear the heat. just keep the new exhaust away from the enter and cpu fans if you do these. But yeah the easiest would be (if not already) keep it in a cooler place. Although it could also be the PSU. If you are a big gamer and keep up with the gameing trends and have 1gb vid card and play the newer games then you might need to get a better power supply unit. The heat could also be a sign of PSU exertsion. The newer games and vid cards need an 800w PSU. The gamesplay and gaminghours along with the SATA power request could be straining the PSU.
